United Way is helping local families by:

Helping parents create healthy, prosperous and safe families.

Child abuse is a growing epidemic, and most child abuse happens in the child's home.  United Way has helped families learn parenting skills that prevented child abuse, breaking the cycle of family violence.  Through United Way supported parenting classes:

  • there are less incidences of child abuse and neglect
  • parents learn to set rules, provide praise and discipline, and communicate effectively with their children

By supporting United Way's Strengthening Families, you will help promote stronger healthier families.  For a list of 2009-2010 United Way grant recipients in each of the four focus areas, click here.

1. Give - Support a local family.

Your contribution creates real lasting changes in the lives of families right here in our community.  Child abuse and neglect is being reduced throughout Wine Country by parents participating in parenting education classes.

2. Advocate - Lend your voice to key family issues.

Lend your voice in support of key issues affecting families by advocating for important policies and legislation.  Share what you know with key business and community leaders who can influence public policy as well as getting your friends and family involved.

3. Volunteer - Give your time or expertise to help local families.

We can connect you with great opportunities to make a difference in the lives of local families.
