United Way and our partners are working to increase child literacy rates in our community. When a young person reads only five books over the summer, it helps prevent the decline in reading skills between the summer months and the start of the new school year.
In Sonoma County last year, the United Way Children's Book Drive was a huge success with more than 5,000 books collected at Exchange Bank locations and at JDSU. More than 1,000 children received at least three books from the Free Bookmoible of Sonoma County from the drive.
Our goal this year is to collect 8,000 books from June 7-June 21. All books collected in Sonoma County will once again benefit the Free Bookmobile of Sonoma County.
For the first time, the book drive is also being held in Mendocino County with all books collected being distributed to local chidlren through FIRST 5 Mendocino and the Lake Family Resource Center!
Give the gift of reading and make a difference in a child's life! Even if you don't have a children's book to donate from home, pick one up the next time you're in a book store.
